Wide growth rings = The tree was growing fast during these years because ample sunlight, water, and nutrients were available to the tree.
Narrow growth rings = The tree was growing slower during these years. This could be due to lack of water, nutrients, and sunlight. This can happen if there are too many trees crowded into an area and they are competing for water, sun, and nutrients. Growing conditions and the health of the tree may improve if some trees were thinned out.
